The rising water level of the Yamuna River has triggered severe flooding in several parts of Delhi on Wednesday, forcing widespread evacuations and relief operations.

Areas including Yamuna Khadar, Mayur Vihar Phase-I, Nigam Bodh Ghat, and Monastery Market were inundated, with floodwaters also reaching nearby residential and commercial zones.

Relief camps have been set up in affected areas, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has stepped up rescue efforts. “People living in low-lying areas have been shifted to safer places. Four teams are deployed here, while 14–18 teams remain on standby,” NDRF Commandant Gyaneshwar Singh told ANI.

In Yamuna Bazar, residents were evacuated after water entered homes, while villagers in Old Usmanpur and Old Garhi Mendu were also forced to move out with their cattle. “Around 2,500 people with their animals live in this village. All were rescued, but relief facilities are still lacking,” said Rakesh, a resident of Old Usmanpur.

Flooding has extended beyond Delhi, with parts of Noida Sector 167 in Uttar Pradesh also submerged due to the swollen river.

The Yamuna crossed the danger mark of 205.33 metres, breaching evacuation levels at 206 metres, following continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days. The warning mark for Delhi is 204.5 metres.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast a generally cloudy sky with moderate rainfall for today, with thunderstorms and rain likely on September 4 and 6, and cloudy skies expected through September 7–8.
